What is Constitution Day Live?

Constitution Day Live is a Bill of Rights Institute program commemorating the signing of the Constitution in 1787. This years program, Road to the Constitution, will highlight the years between the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution leading up to Constitution Day on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The experience will begin on Monday, May 4 with the first of 27 grievances laid out by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and follow along for more interactive content on the winding road to the creation of a new system of government crafted by James Madison.

In the weeks leading up to Constitution Day, a new series of engaging K–12 videos and additional materials in U.S. History, Government, and Civics will roll out, each spotlighting the Constitution and the founding principles behind it. On Constitution Day itself, three additional videos will premiere exclusively for educators and students.

Constitution Day Live includes a collection of videos, quizzes, classroom-ready materials, and more designed to deepen understanding and spark discussion. Participants can track their progress and achievements through a digital passport, making the journey to the Constitution interactive and memorable for you and your students.

What is Constitution Day?

Constitution Day signifies the day thirty-nine delegates officially signed the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.

The Constitution was written in the summer of 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by delegates from 12 states, in order to replace the Articles of Confederation with a new form of government. It created a federal system with a national government composed of 3 separated powers, and included both reserved and concurrent powers of states.
