What is BRI’s Community Impact Contest?

<p>BRI’s Community Impact Contest ignites civic engagement and invites young people nationwide to&nbsp;identify&nbsp;a challenge in their community and take meaningful action to address it, putting the principles of civic participation and self-government into practice.</p>

What is Civic Engagement?

<p>Civic engagement is leading a service, volunteer, or entrepreneurial projects that address local challenges. </p>

Contest Rubric

A project submission must include a written essay to connect your project to our founding principles and virtues and a project video.

Terms and Conditions

The contest opens Sept. 11, 2026 and closes April 19, 2027. Submission is open to students ages 13-19 in all U.S. states, territories, and Armed Forces Schools Abroad.

Student Prizes

Student winners receive a cash prize and national recognition in the Community Impact showcase.*

Grand Prize

$10,000!

Awarded to the top project in the nation, along with national recognition as the Contest’s first-place winner.

Second Place

$5,000

Third Place

$2,500

Honorable Mention

Up to 9 awards. Each one for the project that best demonstrates each Civic Value:

Frequently Asked Questions

To submit a project, students must submit:

  • a pitch video
  • an impact summary
  • a reflection essay
  • project visuals.

Past winners of the MyImpact Challenge Grand Prize, First Prize, Second Prize, or Third Prize are not eligible to enter.

Submission is open to US citizens and US-based young people who are between the ages of 13 and 19 and enrolled in middle or high school on January 1, 2027.

Submission must be received by 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday, April 19, 2027. Only submissions entered through the online portal will be accepted for the contest.

The contest is designed for one student per entry, but groups of up to five students may submit as a single group entry. Prizes awarded to group entries will be split evenly between entrants.
