Sarah Bargfrede

Student

Sparta, New Jersey - Class of 2022

Sarah Bargfrede, one of our 2022 We the Students Essay Contest Honorable Mention winners from Sparta, New Jersey, has gotten involved in a diverse range of clubs in her four years at Sparta High School. In addition to competing on her school’s tennis team, Sarah is a member of their GirlsWhoCode and VEX Robotics chapters. Her involvement in these clubs are reflective of a larger passion she has for computer science. In addition to being her favorite class (along with art), Sarah plans to continue her computer science studies in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan.

In the same vein, Sarah notes that the historical figure she would love to follow on social media if they were alive today would be Grace Hopper “for her groundbreaking contributions to the field of computer science and the confidence she held in her capabilities. When it comes to her greatest influence however, Sarah breaks away from the area computer science. Instead, she lists her sister, Jenna. Jenna is a Naval Academy Midshipman and Sarah notes that “her mental and physical strength, determination, and selflessness inspires [her] to make an impact in [her] life and future cybersecurity career.”

As a voter, Sarah knows what issues are important to her and what she looks for in a candidate. While she primarily cares about climate change and the implementation of environmental regulations, foreign policy and social inequities are also of great importance to her.
