Mohammed Abdelmageed

Student

Washington High School • Sioux Falls, South Dakota

When asked to name his heroes, Mohammed Abdelmageed didn’t wait long to think of an answer.

“My heroes would be my parents, because they sacrificed everything they had for me and my siblings to have a better life and are still trying to give us what we need,” he said. “Also, my teachers who chose to go to college to teach us.”

Abdelmageed is a student at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D., and said he is most proud of how he prioritizes his mental health while balancing his schoolwork with working a job. He said AP U.S. History, precalculus, and anatomy are his favorite classes and Abdelmageed is also secretary of his school’s French Club. He plans to major in biology in college and attend medical school to become a surgeon.

Inflation is the issue Abdelmageed cares about most, as well as helping those dealing with drug addiction and the issue of gun control.

“Not ban [guns], but make some kind of regulations to make students safer when they go to school instead of having a school [shooting] at least once a week in America,” he said.

Abdelamgeed was a winner in the Bill of Rights Institute’s Think The Vote campaign and said he enjoys that the campaign gives “everyone the chance to win, wherever and whoever you are. You have an equal chance to win.”
