Educator

Orange County School for the Arts, Santa Ana, California

“I am absolutely nuts for teaching the Constitution and its interpretations,” says 2020-2021 BRI Teacher Council member Julie Scheppele, “and I really enjoy making that come alive for kids.”

Julie lives in Huntington Beach, California, and teaches in Santa Ana at Orange County School of the Arts. Julie has been teaching since 2009, and currently teaches AP U.S. Government, AP Macroeconomics, and 8th grade U.S. History. She also co-advises OCSA’s Junior State of America.

Julie earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis on American Politics and Government from the University of California, Irvine. She returned to UCI to earn her teaching credential and master’s degree in Teaching after a brief experience working in a Congressional office.

“I am really thankful for the Bill of Rights Institute,” says Julie. “There are a lot of resources out there, but BRI is an organization whose heart clearly beats for educating young people and supporting teachers. And that is so clear in that they have these immediately usable lessons, direct ways for students to interact with their materials, and unrivaled professional development.”
