Should the United States Increase Military Aid to Ukraine?

42% yes
58% no

Last week, Russia shocked the world when it launched an invasion into Ukraine. Policy makers have scrambled to decide how the United States and its allies should respond to this event. There have been debates over the numerous options that the United States should take.

Those who argue that the United States should increase military aid to Ukraine argue that it has a moral and strategic obligation to do so. They contend that as the leader of the free world, the United States needs to uphold self-government and liberty in areas where it is under attack. Additionally, they may claim that if the United States does not assist Ukraine, it will allow Russia to increase in power and further threaten the international liberal order.

Those who argue that the United States should not increase military aid to Ukraine contend that doing so is not in our country’s best interest. They argue that the conflict is not ours to get involved in and doing so will only aggravate Russia more. They may also argue that the United States has an obligation to protect its own citizens first and foremost, and that sending more military aid to Ukraine might threaten Americans’ safety.

So, what do you think? Should the United States Increase Military Aid to Ukraine? Students may answer Yes, it should; No, it should not; or a nuanced answer in between.
