Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices

Students listen by paraphrasing and reflecting on a peer’s ideas before responding. This strategy reinforces listening as a critical learning skill and promotes deeper understanding, respectful dialogue, and more meaningful academic conversations.

Students curate and justify a small set of artifacts (replicas, images, or primary sources) to construct and defend a historical interpretation.

Students read a primary or secondary source and identify a key quotation they want to share with the class. Other students respond to the selection before the student explains the significance of their selection.
