When it comes to supporting teachers, the Bill of Rights Institute walks the walk.

But sometimes we travel by car… airplane… train… or whatever else it takes to get the job done.

Throughout the year, our experienced team of educators puts “boots on the ground,” traveling the country to ensure all civics and history educators have the support they need.

In February alone, BRI’s Programs and Outreach teams delivered professional development to more than 500 educators throughout the United States.

So far in 2024, BRI has brought professional development programs to states across the country like Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Texas, and more.

The BRI team also exhibited in February at state conferences in Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and North Carolina, to introduce educators to BRI’s market-leading resources and programs.

March has stayed plenty busy, including a seven-day stretch where BRI hosted 11 events. The Institute is currently on track to host more than 60 professional development sessions during the spring semester.

For BRI’s Director of Programs Joe Schmidt, a former social studies teacher himself, professional development is essential for increasing both knowledge and a sense of community among teachers.

“We know that high-quality professional development benefits both teachers and the students they serve,” said Schmidt. “But the community-building we experience during professional development is powerful as well. Teachers know we have been in the classroom, we understand their challenges, and we are always here to support them.”
