BRI Teacher And Student Earn Prestigious Honors

The Bill of Rights Institute is proud to work with some of the most talented civics and history educators and students in America.

Recently, a BRI teacher and student received prestigious honors recognizing their work and achievements.

Michael Sandstrom, a member of BRI’s National Teacher Council, received the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Nebraska’s Chadron State College, his alma mater.

Sandstrom, a history and social studies teacher at Chadron High School, has had a remarkable teaching career that includes being named the Gilder Lehrman Nebraska History Teacher of the Year for 2019 and the 2022 Outstanding Teacher for the Third District by the Nebraska State Council for the Social Studies.

BRI Student Fellow Ariel Fader also received a recent honor when she was selected to be part of the United States Senate Youth Program delegation.

Fader, a senior at Ryle High School in Union, Ky., is part of BRI’s Student Fellowship, an elite six-month educational program that helps high school students grow as leaders and develop skills in building civil society.

As a member of the United States Senate Youth Program delegation, Fader has earned a $10,000 scholarship and will travel to Washington, D.C., to hear major policy addresses from senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense, and directors of other federal agencies.

Delegates will also meet with President Joe Biden and a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
