BRI Introduces Standards Alignment Workshops For Teachers

by Bill of Rights Institute on

As part of its ongoing efforts to support teachers nationwide, the Bill of Rights Institute recently began holding standards alignment workshops in certain states to collaborate with educators.

This collaboration focuses on aligning BRI’s resources with state education standards. Participants in these workshops review BRI’s extensive educational content and work with their colleagues to share best practices and ideas. As a result, educators leave the workshops with a fully developed lesson plan tailored to their curriculum and designed to meet and exceed social studies and history standards.

To date, BRI held or will hold workshops in Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Utah, with plans to hold seminars in additional states. The early reviews are in, and teachers love this new offering from BRI.

“I have used the BRI site in the past for some learning content, but I needed this session today to really remind myself of the many resources provided by BRI,” said a teacher who attended the Pennsylvania workshop.

A Michigan teacher who attended a workshop said, “The engagement with social studies standards, BRI resources, and networking with colleagues from across Michigan was powerful. The time to reflect on standards and be treated like a professional is very much appreciated!”

Joe Schmidt, BRI’s senior director of teacher programs, said, “We understand that for many teachers, standards alignment is a requirement that they might not always have the time to focus on.

“Because of this, we want to help teachers find resources they know are standards-aligned from the start. This allows teachers to focus on their number one priority — their students,” he said.
