A BRI Teacher Seminar

Ever wonder what one of our teacher seminars is like? Check out a recap video of our recent seminar in downtown Manhattan!

0:00 [Music] Uh so we’re here today at one of our uh constitutional seminars where we’re discussing liberty and equality. Um

0:21 we’re working to give teachers good um both primary source and content background as well as um some good uh pedagogical lessons and tools in which they can implement it in their classroom. I I’m hoping to get a better understanding of uh the Bill of Rights and the Constitution from you know the experts in the field. Um and and I think that’s absolutely what I’m hoping to get out of today and already have um a

0:44 clearer understanding that I can pass along to students. I’ve gotten a lot of additional information, background information especially, that I didn’t know about. And the documents of freedom um excerpts are fantastic, I think, to use with my students in the classroom. I love the reference to primary sources using in teaching because it brings a

1:04 relevance and an authenticity that very often we can’t bring and therefore I find it much more helpful if you can put them in their place. It gives it relevance to them. hundreds of teachers across the country every year that come to these events. Um, and I think there’s 25 to 30 just at this event alone. Um, so our reach is pretty broad and we’re excited to get our material in the hands

1:25 of as many teachers as possible. The real helpful thing is not only just having primary sources um is also um having uh expertise in how to deliver them to students. Um, so so far we’ve we’ve used not only just primary sources and giving the proper context and background, but then also um ways to for you as the educator to be able to use

1:47 them and implement them with students. I’ve totally enjoyed my day here so far. This has been I’ve been brainstorming all morning about how to use the strategies and the materials that we’ve been getting. I think they’re highc caliber uh presenters, great access to resources, and we’re treated very well. Yes, I would definitely recommend the seminar. I liked it a lot. um uh

2:07 everything about it has been first class and you know top rate and um I would absolutely recommend it to uh any educator. I think that the more students read primary sources the more critical thinking that skills they can develop and the better off they are in college and careers. My name is Jennifer Connelly and I’m from Preston High School in Bronx, New York. Uh Glenn Stodder, uh Notre Dame School of
