BRI Wraps Up Its Latest Teacher Fellowship

by Bill of Rights Institute on

The Bill of Rights Institute completed its latest Teacher Fellowship program last month. The program helps teachers increase their understanding of civics and civics education using primary sources.

Teachers also explored various methods for teaching civics by incorporating history, law, economics, civil society, and social studies. They participated in monthly meetings, integrated philosophical inquiry into teaching, developed practical and innovative lesson plans for fostering civic engagement, and cultivated leadership and community engagement skills among their fellow educators.

The monthly Teacher Fellowship sessions began last year with an introduction to the program and civics education. Teachers also discussed topics such as the characteristics of good citizenship; the purpose of civic education; engaging in civic dialogue; and reaching out to young people in the classroom.
