BRI Jr. Delivers Major Learning Gains in New Study
Exciting results are in for BRI Jr., the Bill of Rights Institute’s high-quality elementary resource.
And BRI Jr. delivered significant learning gains in a new study from Georgetown University.
Launched earlier this year, BRI Jr. is the first-ever elementary resource from the Bill of Rights Institute.
BRI collaborated with the Civic Education Research Lab (CERL) at Georgetown University on a study to evaluate two BRI Jr. learning modules that focus on America’s westward expansion and the effects of industrialization and immigration on the United States.
The study included a group of 18 4th- and 5th-grade teachers nationwide and more than 400 students. Teachers were allowed to choose which module to teach, and the results were impressive.
Students who completed the module on America’s expansion increased their knowledge of the subject matter by 34 percent, and students who completed the industrialization module increased their knowledge by 112 percent.
The students who participated in the study also became much more confident in explaining the concepts within both modules and developed an increased interest in the subject matter.
BRI plans to use the data and feedback from this study to continue improving our materials and resources for educators. Visit our website often for the latest updates!
