
A Bill of Rights Institute Professional Development Series
The Bill of Rights Institute is launching a three-part professional development series designed for North Dakota educators, particularly those in rural communities in partnership with the Bergum Foundation. Through this series, we seek to provide resources, collaborative opportunities, and hands-on training to enhance civic education across the state.
Information for Participants
- Open to K-12 North Dakota educators
- Rural Teachers will receive $2,000 stipend for participating in all three parts
- Non-Rural Teachers will receive $500 stipend for participating in all three parts
Program Components
VIRTUAL ORIENTATION (2 HOURS)
- Choose from an Elementary, Middle, or High School strand
- Learn how to use BRI resources with North Dakota standards
- Customize six inquiry-based lessons for your classroom
- Complete a standards-alignment crosswalk for lesson implementation
IN-PERSON SEMINAR (6 HOURS)
- Hands-on training: Explore and model BRI resources
- Interactive Sessions such as Civil Discourse, Micro-Writing, and Interactive Games
- Collaborative lesson planning
- Lesson Showcase: Teachers present and refine their six lessons
REVIEW OF LEARNING OUTCOMES (3 HOURS)
- Present student work samples
- Peer & Expert evaluation of student learning outcomes
- Reflection activities to improve lesson implementation
- Complete a standards-alignment crosswalk for lesson implementation
