Webinars, Civics Summit Help BRI Support Teachers
With the topic of executive orders dominating the headlines to start 2025, the Bill of Rights Institute partnered with the Lou Frey Institute at the University of Central Florida on Feb. 11 to present a pair of webinars on that same topic.
The sessions, which were also a collaboration with the Florida and Wisconsin Councils for the Social Studies, examined executive orders from throughout American history and explained how executive orders relate to the U.S. Constitution. Teachers who attended the webinars also learned how they can help their students understand the powers of each branch of government.
More than 260 attendees participated in the webinars and one fifth-grade history teacher said the sessions allowed them “to further advance my education and bring new materials to the classroom.”
Another teacher expressed appreciation for organizations like BRI, that provide resources to help teachers interpret current events for their students.
“I will continue to come back to BRI and your affiliated organizations to try to help my students make sense of our current situation,” they said.
BRI also participated in a civics summit earlier this month at the University of Pittsburgh (Pa.)-Johnstown. BRI joined other organizations in the day-long workshop and shared information on our new elementary school curriculum, BRI Jr., and MyImpact Challenge – BRI’s annual national civics contest for students.
A teacher who attended BRI’s session said it served as their formal introduction to BRI, and they will “definitely” start using our resources in the future.
