At the Bill of Rights Institute, we work nonstop to provide teachers nationwide with the best resources and training possible so they can give their students a comprehensive civics education.

Each state has its own civics education standards, and as a national organization, BRI does not design resources specifically for any individual state standards. However, our resources are designed with practices that align with many of those, and our new state standards tool can help teachers ensure they’re using resources that meet those standards.

BRI’s educational resources are standards-informed. To help teachers use our resources in their classrooms, BRI conducted workshops nationwide to align with individual state standards, and teams of educators collaborated to create aligned, high-quality instructional materials.

By evaluating BRI lessons and reaching a consensus on whether a resource is strongly, somewhat, or weakly aligned, educators shared their practical knowledge of how to meet their state’s individual standards. We suggest educators use and follow resources as a starting point to meet their state’s standards.

Our state standards tool currently offers guidance on state standards for Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Utah and will soon include guidance on standards for Michigan and Pennsylvania. Teachers who create a free BRI educator account can also save and share specific state-aligned BRI resources.
