BRI Programs Draw Rave Reviews From Teachers

School may have let out for the summer, but the work doesn’t stop for the Bill of Rights Institute.

BRI staff participate in conferences and conduct professional development workshops nationwide, all year round. BRI recently held workshops and participated in conferences in Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Texas, including the Dallas Metroplex Social Studies Conference.

Educators received training on various BRI materials and resources, including BRI’s Slavery and the Founding curriculum.

A teacher who attended a BRI workshop in Midland, Tex., in May learned more about analyzing primary sources and said, “It was an enriching experience, and I gained valuable insight into the use of primary sources in the classroom. The workshop was informative and engaging, [and] I especially enjoyed the demonstration of specific strategies to use in class.”

Another Texas teacher discussed using BRI’s resources every year to teach students about the preamble to the U.S. Constitution.

“It makes them think,” the teacher said. “I still love it and find it relevant for my students!”

Joe Schmidt, BRI’s Director of Programs, said, “We work really hard to make sure that the professional learning opportunities we provide are meaningful to educators, so when we get this type of feedback, it helps us know that we have achieved our most important goal.”

“We know how valuable time is, especially during the summer, so we take pride in making sure that participants walk away from a training feeling like it was time well spent,” he added.

More information on future BRI professional development events is available on the BRI website.
