December 15 was Bill of Rights Day, commemorating the anniversary of the ratification of the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

The Bill of Rights Institute spent the day recognizing teachers nationwide for their ongoing efforts to educate students on the importance of civics and history.

BRI President David Bobb wrote a Letter to the Editor expressing his gratitude to teachers that was published in the Chicago Tribune, Las Vegas Sun, and Cedar Rapids Gazette, among other publications across the country.

“While Bill of Rights Day may not be widely commemorated throughout the United States, there is a simple way to honor the occasion: Thank your local civics and history teachers,” Bobb wrote. “They have some of the most important — and often underappreciated — jobs in our country today.”

Bobb also appeared on C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” program on Bill of Rights Day to discuss the day’s significance, the necessity of having civil discourse in our society, and the importance of teachers.
BRI also held a trivia contest on its Facebook and Twitter pages where participants could answer civics-related questions and win prizes.
