Award-Winning Teacher Loves Collaborating With BRI
Jessica Culver’s introduction to the Bill of Rights Institute began with a teacher seminar she attended at BRI’s headquarters in 2018.
Since then, she has immersed herself in BRI’s materials and resources and finds those invaluable to her classroom instruction.
“It’s exciting to work with other teachers, learn what they’re doing, and interact with them and get ideas,” said Culver, who teaches history at Ozark High School in Ozark, Ark., and is also a member of BRI’s National Teacher Council.
In addition to her work with BRI, Culver has served as a Donors Choose Teacher Ambassador, a National Master Educator with Take Charge Today, and a Bessie B. Moore award winner for excellence in economics education. She also was named the 2021 Arkansas Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Outstanding Teacher.
Culver makes ample use of BRI’s comprehensive online textbook Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, adding that “I teach U.S. history classes and fully rely on it as the basis for my course.”
She also described BRI’s website as “very user-friendly” and mentioned she also enjoys using BRI’s Homework Help videos, adding that “students love them – they’re user-friendly, quick and easy and to the point.”
Culver enjoys attending events that BRI participates in as part of her experience on the teacher council – particularly last year’s National Council for the Social Studies conference in Philadelphia.
“It was great seeing my fellow BRI people in person after spending so much time online,” Culver said. In addition to learning from her fellow council members, Culver hopes to inspire them as well – including by penning a blog post detailing her educational trip to Hawaii with one of her students. “I had an amazing experience with a student, and it helped me share how I get inspired, and I hope that inspires others,” Culver said.
