Our Being an American Essay Contest winners arrived in Washington, D.C.! I got to meet Neva, Ady, Ryan, and so many other talented, cool high school students as they checked into their hotel rooms today. I love being on the ground and meeting the students!
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, their teachers, and parents were treated to a kid-friendly dinner of sliders and nachos, followed by orientation where they were encouraged to take their experience from the next few days home to share with their communities.
After having our own Dr. Jason Ross kick off the evening, Laura Vlk had the students introduce themselves to the group and John Croft explained all the different places we’ll be going with the students over the next few days. (The Supreme Court! The House floor! The American History Museum! and many more.)
After capping the night off with fondue and ice cream, everyone retired to their rooms to recharge for tomorrow’s action-packed day. Check back over the new few days to stay up-to-date with the adventures the winning Being an American Essay Contest students and teachers will have. You can also see pictures throughout the day on our Facebook and Twitter pages!
